MIAMI (AP)– Author Carl Hiaasen is retiring from the Miami Herald after composing paper columns for the past 35 years, the newspaper states.

The Herald released a story today saying that Hiaasen would be done after his last column on March14 The 67- year-old Hiaasen stated he no longer wants the pressure of a weekly deadline.

” I’ve been considering reducing off as the years passed,” Hiaasen informed the Herald. “I was 23 when I started working there. I seem like I nearly matured in the newsroom. I likewise feel at this phase it’s a good time to step away.”

That’s not to state that Hiaasen will stop writing. He said he prepares to continue his book projects, which have actually ranged from comic books such as “Tourist Season” and “Double Whammy” to children’s titles such as “Hoot.”

His latest book is “Squeeze Me,” about the age of previous President Donald Trump.

Hiaasen’s friend and likewise longtime Herald columnist, Dave Barry, said it may not be easy for him to change.

” The hardest thing for Carl is going to be when individuals of Florida, particularly the chosen officials, continue to do idiotic things and he can’t speak about it. He’ll have to deal with that,” Barry stated. “And it’s going to be tough on his fans, who enjoy him to death regardless of the reality that nobody has actually ever had the ability to discover to spell his name properly.”

Hiaasen has seen his share of tragedy. His brother, Rob Hiaasen, was among the five people killed in the 2018 mass shooting at the Capital Gazette paper in Annapolis, Maryland. Rob Hiaasen was an editor at the paper.
